Introduction:

The BDFFL (Big Dog Football League) was developed in 1999 when Jeff and Shipman became discontent with other fantasy leagues that lacked web based standings and reporting. They jointly drew up the initial league rules and started from there. Of course, modifications have been made over the years with the help of all the owners. Since then, the league has expanded from 8 to 12 teams. In nine years, seven teams have resigned from the league.  Eleven teams have been added due to league expansion and team replacement.

2008:

The roster was increased from 13 to 14 players.  The divisional title payout was increased from $40 to $80.  Rus McCoy, David Mirike and Steve "Catfish" Bullock resigned from the league.  Wayne Hughes and Bill Ervin joined the league.  Jeremy Goulding returned from a two year absence.  Pete Shipman started a new team with Jim Shipman.

2007:

The "Quiggle Penalty" was added which imposes a $1 fee per player for starting an NFL player that is on bye or is out due to injury.  Bill Quiggle resigned from the league.  Joe Hutson joined the league.

2006:

A "Loser Fine" was added which imposes a $5 fee to the team with the lowest points during the week.  Jim Shipman and Jeremy Goulding resigned from the league.  Melvin Johnson and Jason Wendland joined the league.  Co-Commish and Editor-in-Chief positions eliminated.

2005:

One point per reception added.  Live Scoring introduced.  NFL Survivor game added to the fantasy wager games.  Playoff seeding changed.  New Beer Wench playoff bracket imposed for the bottom four teams in the league.  Increased dues to $100 from $85.

2004:

  • League games can end in a tie.  An additional fee of $2 per loss is imposed.  The defensive scoring scheme has changed to better emulate the NFL.  Ron Jones resigned from the league.  Jeremy Goulding joined the league.

  • 2003:

    The league roster increased by one player to 13 total.  This also increased the rounds of drafting to 13.  Moved the submission schedule back one full day.  Jim Shipman resigns as Co-Commish and becomes the Editor-in-Chief.  David Mirike accepts the promotion from Integrity Commish to Co-Commish.

    2002:

    Changed league to a three division structure. Added a weekly Pick'em game.  Integrity Commissioner role was created.  Mark Cohen resigned from the league.  Andy Mirike joined the league.  Increased dues to $85 from $75.  Beer Wench concept was added to the league.

    2001:

    Changed the league scoring format to performance based from touchdown based.  Allowed original team names.

    2000:

    Expanded the league to 12 teams from 8.  David Mirike, Tony Maisel, Markus Kwan and Ron Jones joined the league.  The transaction process was restructured which limited the number of players that a team could pickup sequentially.  Reduced roster from 16 players to 12 players.  Changed playoff structure including the addition of a bye week.  Increased dues to $75 from $60.
